To scan a document on a Canon printer, first connect the USB cable that came with the printer to the printer and a USB port on your computer. Then turn on the printer if it has a dedicated power button. Then open the scanner lid to access the glass plate on which you will place your document. Place your document face down and align the edges of the paper with strokes along the edge of the glass plate. Close the scanner cover. If your printer and computer are set up correctly, you can click the “Scan” button on your printer to download the scanned image automatically. Otherwise, if you have Windows, type “Windows Fax and Scan” in the Start menu and click the application. The Fax and Scan tool opens. Click the New Scan button and wait for your document to appear. On a Mac, click Apple in the top left corner of the screen to open the drop-down menu. Select System Preferences and click Printers & Scanners. Then click your printer name in the active device menu. Select “Open Scanner”, select the options you want from the menu, and click the “Scan” button.
