After removing the cartridge, you can leave it on a small plate or plate until you are ready to seal or discard it. Most cartridges have narrow holes, so the surface tension of the ink will keep it from spilling unless you shake or shake the cartridge. You will need duct tape and a small ziplock bag. In our experience, packing tape works best, but regular office tape works just as well. And instead of a bag, you can use a small airtight container. (The 5ml ink cartridge is great for holding one or two standard international short cartridges.)
Use a small piece of tape to cover the opening in the cartridge. In step 2, trim any loose edges to prevent them from sticking to the inside of the bag.
Place the cartridge in a mailing bag and squeeze out as much air as possible while sealing the bag. The less air that is sealed with the cartridge, the longer the cartridge will last.
When you are ready to use the cartridge again, remove it from the bag and remove the tape.

Use a glue gun to apply a circle of glue when the cartridge is opened. Slowly fill the space above the key with glue until you have made a complete seal. The glue should stay on the outside of the cartridge and not fall off, where it can be difficult to remove. With small opening cartridges, the glue will naturally collect on the outside of the opening. However, with larger openings, some patience and concentration may be required.
When making a glue seal, we recommend using enough glue to create a lip that hangs over the side of the cartridge. This will make it easier to remove the glue when you are ready to use the cartridge again.
When you are ready to use the cartridge again, remove the adhesive. It should come out in one clean piece without leaving any residue.

I was able to get through to an InstantInk (1-855-785-2777) person who told me how to remove the cartridge and install a new one. Nothing in the documentation that came with the printer mentioned pressing the cartridge over. He quickly instructed the assistant to press the raised edge on the top of the black cartridge and voila! He then had to help me install a new cartridge, which I thought didn’t fit because it was bigger than the color cartridge and I thought it wasn’t installed.
